Cameron’s Rules

Sitting down the other night to watch one of my favourite Dr. Who episodes, ‘A Good Man Goes To War‘, there is a line that started me thinking.

Madame Kovarian – “The anger of a good man is not a problem. Good men have too many rules”
Dr. Who – “Good men don’t need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many”

Whilst all of the Dr’s rules have never been completely listed, some of the important ones are:
#1 – The Doctor lies.
#7 – Never run when you are scared
#408 – Time is not the boss of me.

This then got me thinking about all the other people that have ‘Rules’. For example, Leroy Jethro Gibbs from NCIS has his rules, of which I think there are 50 odd. I discovered Clint Eastwood’s Rules many years and then not long after that I found Bob Parson’s Rules.

Having been to more than the occasional personal development seminar and training program I decided to dig out all those things that you write down while there and compile my own set of rules.

The complete set will soon be found on this page, once I have dug out all those pieces of paper, and typed up what I wrote down. I have included the first few here, just as a bit of a teaser.

Movie Review: MIB III

If you read my post titled A blog post about not being able to write a blog post you would know that I have had a bit of an extreme bout of writer’s block.

It finally disappeared over the weekend, hence the reason that there has been three posts, with this being the fourth since Sunday.

Anyway, in an effort to keep it at bay, I have decided that I am going to write and publish all sorts of things. Some of it will be the usual political stuff that I have done in the past. Some will be random rants, and others, like this one will be a movie review. I may even raid my bookshelf and do a bit of a write up of all the books that I have in there.

So. Without further ado, here is my review of the movie Men In Black III…

Not being a reader of the comic book series that inspired these movies, I can’t tell you how the story line compares to what is in the comics, though from a second sequel, I’d have to saw that overall it was pretty good.

The movie is showing in both 2D and 3D, and I went and saw the 2D version.

As with most sci fi movies these days, special effects plays a big part in it, and it was blended fairly good.

Without giving too much of the plot away, an uber villan from today’s time, after years of confinement, manages to break out of a prison that was specifically created for him. And yes, I do believe a bucket load of artistic licence was used there.

This uber villan, making the most of the number of years that he was incarcerated has come up with the brilliant plan that if he goes back in time and takes out Agent K, before he gets caught then the world will be a rosy place for him and whatever else he has planned.

Are We Alone In The Universe?

“You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”
This is the immortalised by the character Morpheus when talking to Neo about his perceived existence, from the movie The Matrix.

Yet how many people have been willing to take the red pill and increase their awareness of what is actually happening in the world?

Sadly too many people seem to be addicted to the blue pill. Happily believing the things that their electronic master has told then. They are happy watching their reality tv, their televised sport, and daily soap operas.

We know the government and media has been deceiving and misleading us for years about a whole range of issues. Though what about Hollywood, and the TV series that are produced? Surely they can’t all be work of fiction, and created for the sole purpose of entertainment.

It is obvious that the endless stream of “Shoot ’em up” movies have had the effect of desensitizing us to violence, and that the they are assisting with the emasculation of the modern man so much that he has become effiminate with his skinny jeans and designer belts.

Though what about other things?

Recently, over a few coffees I was party to a conversation where it was hypothesised that with the high number of alien invasion type movies being released over the past few years, has been done to distract us from the fact that a potential alien incursion won’t come from outer space, it will come from our oceans. And they are in fact already here.
